THE CASTAN CENTRE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS LAW

The Castan Centre is one of the world’s leading academic human rights centres and has been described as “a jewel in the crown of Australian law.”

Based in the Law Faculty at Melbourne’s Monash University, our aim is to use world class academic knowledge in new ways to influence policy debates, inspire students and educate the public at large. In particular, we:

Run a broad public education program that includes an annual conference, up to a dozen free public events, a vibrant social media presence and – of course – Have You Got That Right?

Participate in policy debates in Australia and overseas by engaging with politicians, parliamentary committees, international organisations and the general public.

Nurture students’ interest in human rights beyond the classroom through one of the world’s best global internship programs, an in-house internship program, a nationwide moot competition and a comprehensive human rights careers guide.

All of these programs are underpinned by the expertise of our globally renowned academics who research, publish and teach in human rights.

The Castan Centre was formed as a tribute to the late Ron Castan QC AO, one of Australia’s greatest human rights lawyers.

You can find out more about us at our website.
